Mawi DNA Partners with Tempus AI and Tally Health™ to compare flocked swabs from both Puritan® and Copan

October 7, 2024 – Customers frequently ask what swabs are compatible with our iSWAB^® non-invasive sample collection technology. Although most swab types can be used with our system, including cotton, dacron, and rayon, we have found that flocked swabs provide the best overall result in terms of DNA yield and quality. But which flocked swab?

To answer this question, we partnered with Tempus AI and Tally Health™ to compare flocked swabs from both Puritan^® and Copan, two of the market-leading swab manufacturers. Buccal samples were collected using Puritan^® PurFlock Ultra^® and Copan FLOQ swabs, stabilized by iSWAB^®-DNA, preprocessed and ran on Infinium MethylationEPIC by Tempus AI, and raw data was analyzed by Tally Health™ for epigenetic age prediction. To summarize, there was no significant difference in quality between samples collected by either Puritan^® or Copan flocked swabs.
