To help customers utilize their preferred DNA extraction kits, Mawi DNA Technologies conducted a study to test buccal swab samples obtained from iSWAB™-DNA-250 with four commonly used DNA extraction kits to compare their ability to yield high-quality, high-quantity DNA.
The iSWAB-DNA-250 oral sample collection device contains a proprietary buffer that stabilizes samples at room temperature for several years. The unique formulation enables the release of double-stranded, long-fragment human genomic DNA while simultaneously reducing bacterial DNA content, the only sample collection product on the market with this feature. Furthermore, the nature of the stabilization buffer makes it compatible with most commercially available extraction kits, allowing customers to continue using previously validated chemistries and streamlining the adoption process.
Four extraction kits were chosen to represent manual and automated methods, as well as spin column-based and magnetic beads-based extractions. The data highlights the DNA Yield, DNA integrity, and Bacterial Ratio of samples extracted using all four kits.
